Balancing mulchers and agricultural rotors
Long agricultural rotors can often be corrected in two planes after dirt, damaged tools, loose mounts and mechanical runout have been addressed.

Direct answer
Can a mulcher rotor be balanced without removal?
Often yes, when the machine can be run safely, both bearing housings are accessible and temporary weights can be secured. Clean the rotor and replace missing or damaged tools before measuring imbalance.
Before the first run
Mechanical checks come first
- Remove soil, plant material and wrapped debris.
- Replace missing, bent or mismatched hammers and knives.
- Check tool pivots, bearing play, shaft runout and drive condition before balancing.
Order of work
A controlled balancing sequence

Select two correction planes near the rotor ends where permanent weights can be secured.

Mount sensors on both bearing housings and protect cables from the rotor and debris.

Use the same safe speed for baseline, trial and verification runs.

Fix trial weights mechanically, with a bolt, clamp or tack weld. Magnets and tape do not hold reliably near an exposed agricultural rotor.

Verify after correction and inspect every fastener before returning the machine to service.
